Ozark Festival Orchestra
"Bringing Great Music to Hometown Audiences"
Brian Fibelkorn
Trombone
How long have you played?
25 years
Occupation (or what keeps you busy when you’re not making music):
Veterinary Assistant
How did you get started playing your instrument?
My dad played trombone and MAY have had some influence for which instrument I began with in 5th grade. The year prior to starting, I also began playing violin. It helped having parents that were both music teachers!
Musical groups I’ve played with:
Galloway Chamber Orchestra
Four States Wind Ensemble
Favorite piece I’ve ever performed:
A piece I’d love to perform someday:
Anything by Gustav Mahler (except his 4th symphony which has NO TROMBONES)
Favorite composer or musical style:
John Williams is always a good time!
Favorite hobby besides music:
Trying new restaurants and foods anywhere and any time!
Favorite food or restaurant:
Kinnaree is a great Thai restaurant in Joplin, MO and Corner 21 in Springfield, MO is the best Chinese food I've ever had.
Favorite movie or TV show:
I rather enjoy Adam Sandler films, especially 50 First Dates.
A place I’d love to visit:
Ireland or Iceland
Something most people don’t know about me:
If you need a topic researched more in depth than you ever asked for, just ask.
If I could have dinner with any musician (past or present), it would be:
It would be nice to meet Christian Lindberg in person; he's my favorite trombonist to listen to and he's quite hilarious in all his interviews. You have to check out his CD album covers. He is fully aware.
What do you enjoy most about playing in the Ozark Festival Orchestra?
Local faces mean so much more. I could play alongside some of the best musicians in another group but I typically don't see them anywhere else. The friendships made in OFO are everything to the organization and the quality we produce.
What advice would you give someone thinking about joining?
Talk to the members. Play more often. Don't worry about how bad you are when you are probably better than you think!
Favorite orchestra memory:
Being asked to play louder. Anytime at all Carla!
