Jordan White - Tuba
How long have you played?
24 years
Occupation (or what keeps you busy when you’re not making music):
Director of Bands, Monett High School, Monett, MO
Director of the Adult Choir, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lockwood, MO
How did you get started playing your instrument?
I started when I was 6 playing piano. Then when I was in 6th Grade, I started beginning band, playing trumpet. We also had a handbell choir in my school, but now that I'm an adult, I fill-in whenever I can to play handbells with my church handbell choir. I started playing tuba my Freshman year of High School, because my band director asked for any volunteers...it's a good thing that worked out!
Musical groups I’ve played with:
Four-State Symphonic Winds
Banana 5 Brass Quintet
Immanuel Lutheran Church Adult Choir
Favorite piece I’ve ever performed:
Asphalt Cocktail by John Mackey
A piece I’d love to perform someday:
Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin
Favorite composer or musical style:
I pretty much love all musical styles, but as for composers, I am currently loving Adrian B. Simms!
Favorite hobby besides music:
Riding Horses
Favorite food or restaurant:
I could eat Chinese food everyday!
Favorite movie or TV show:
Ted Lasso
A place I’d love to visit:
Frankfurt, Germany
Something most people don’t know about me:
I attended Kindergarten in Germany, when my father was stationed there in the early 90s.
If I could have dinner with any musician (past or present), it would be:
Roger Bobo. He is the GODFATHER of all tuba players!
What do you enjoy most about playing in the Ozark Festival Orchestra?
I enjoy the smiles, the community, and the ability to play music that is new to me, as I have not done a ton of orchestral playing in the past.
What advice would you give someone thinking about joining?
DO IT!!! Jump in and have fun!
Favorite orchestra memory:
Just about any rehearsal with my Low Brass buddies!
